The Carnegie Institution of Washington is hosting a 1 ½-day Symposium in honor of Dr. Vera C. Rubin's many contributions to astronomy. This Symposium will be held at the headquarters of the Carnegie Institution in downtown Washington, DC, and will begin with a Public Lecture by Dr. Allan Sandage of the Carnegie Observatories at 4:00 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2002, following the 199th Meeting of the American Astronomical Society.
A full-day session of scientific talks will be held on Friday, January 11 beginning at 8:30 am. Topics of discussion will range from extrasolar planetary systems, the kinematics of stars in the Milky Way, and the dynamics and mass distributions of spiral galaxies to the large-scale matter distribution in the universe. A dinner at the nearby Washington Hilton hotel will bring the Symposium to a close on Friday evening.
If you wish to participate in Friday's science sessions and/or the dinner, please click on "Registration", fill out the form, and submit it by November 25, 2001. Payment by mail must reach us by November 30, 2001, at the latest.
