Xing Sun, Ph.D., left the Borjigin lab to resume his position as a surgeon at PuDong Hospital in Shanghai, China.

Tim Mical departed the Gall lab in Dec. Joseph Gall received an honorary membership in the German Society for Cell Biology at the First Joint French-German Congress on Cell Biology, held in Strasbourg Nov. 7-9.

Marnie Halpern has been appointed to the advisory board for the Pew Science and Society Institute, a new program sponsored by the Pew Charitable Trusts to encourage biomedical researchers to become involved in socially important issues. Halpern was also a keynote speaker at the Fourth Postdoctoral Conference sponsored by the NICHD, Dec. 5-7.

Postdoctoral fellow Jennifer Liang accepted a position in the Dept. of Biology at Case Western Reserve U. in Cleveland, OH.

Terence Murphy presented his work on centrosome duplication at the annual meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology in Washington, DC, Dec. 9. Amy Guertin, who worked in the Murphy lab this past summer, was awarded the Johns Hopkins 2001 Provost’s Undergraduate Research Award. She received $2,000 to support her research and will participate in a poster session and ceremony in Mar. 2002.

Alejandro Sánchez Alvarado is now an associate professor in the Dept. of Neurobiology and Anatomy at U. Utah, Salt Lake City.

Ru Gunawardane, from the Zheng lab, received her Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins U. She is off to the Harvard Medical School.
